Our Thoughts

Way back in 1992 fans of Sonic The Hedgehog were treated to what is without question one of the most unique games in the series, the Sega Master System version of Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Unlike Sonic The Hedgehog before it, which shared several zones in common with its Mega Drive brother, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has no such similarities.

Firstly, let's talk about the game-play experience. Despite the original Master System Sonic The Hedgehog gaining huge praise, particularly in Europe, many were quick to point out features which were sorely missed from the Mega Drive versions, in addition to plenty of bugs and slowdown glitches. Put bluntly, the game was rushed to market for a console which was arguably behind the times by that point.

One of the biggest complains is one of speed; fans will be happy to learn that Sonic 2 is much faster than its predecessor, and provides an experience much closer to the Mega Drive game.

The other major difference this time around is the zones, which many will remember as being completely different from the Mega Drive counterpart. Unlike the first Sonic, which featured three levels in common, Sonic 2 has an all-unique experience which arguably makes it much more of an appealing prospect; after all, who really wants to buy the same game twice?
