The Getaway for PlayStation 2
The Getaway is the first in a series of Sony PlayStation 2 games set on the streets of London. Originally set to release with the advent of the PlayStation 2 in 2000, programming issues delayed the game. Having difficulty fully formatting the “mean” streets of London the game was delayed for over 2 years. That wasn’t a problem for gaming enthusiasts, and movie buffs who admired the movies the game was based off of - Get Carter and Snatch.
The aspect of playing dual roles of both good and evil as both bank robber and detective appealed to many. The third-person sandbox style gameplay had gamers enthralled, and the option of free roaming augmented this. After completing the missions the developers allowed for open world play without timers or missions. Allowing for an amazing replay value. An authentic world action RPG with replay value, what’s not to like?
