Introducing Gameplay Videos

Last year we brought you screenshots, all carefully taken directly from the original games. No emulation for us! In the mean time we have been working hard, developing a system for recording high quality gameplay footage to help showcase each and every game we have available, and given enough time, every game on the planet.

Before I get to the technical side of things, why not check out the videos for Sega Rally Championship and Crazy Taxi that we lovingly uploaded a few hours ago.

Our process allows for a full RGB capture, directly from the actual hardware the games were developed for, at the original frame-rate and resolution. No fancy image quality enhancements are going on here, what you see is exactly what you get from the game itself!

In the case of modern consoles with HDMI outputs we capture at the closest resolution to the game's native rendering to ensure an accurate representation. In most cases this is actually 720p, despite the majority of current generation consoles supporting "Full HD" 1080p... But that's another story for another time.

For those wondering about the technical details, all of these videos are uploaded in both WebM and H.264 formats at around 3 Mbps (VBR) for SD, and 6 Mbps (VBR) for HD. The player supports both HTML5 and Adobe Flash, so you'll be able to view them in just about any browser, new or old.
