    Our Thoughts

Following on from the hugely successful Ridge Racer Type-4 was never going to be an easy task; it reinvigorated and reinvented a series of what were originally arcade racers, changing them into something that could stand against the heavily campaign/simulator focused Gran Turismo titles. Ridge Racer V seeks to strike something of a balance between the earlier titles Ridge Racer and Type-4's mode of play; the main meat of the game is still a campaign mode with clear progression, vehicular upgrades and so on, but the story/cutscene quota has been dialled way back to very little, and the requirements for success in races are not nearly as tight nor the punishments for failure so unforgiving. Graphically the game still holds up beautifully, with the kind of crisp visual fidelity early Namco PS2 titles would become known for, and the soundtrack is once again a strong point, swapping out the funkier flavours of the previous entry for a slightly harder, more experimental tech-driven sound.
